The MSc Specialist Practice of Periodontal Therapy is designed to elevate the periodontal treatment skills of general dentists while fostering advanced competencies in managing periodontal diseases. Many cases requiring periodontal intervention are often referred to specialists, even though they can be effectively managed within the scope of general practice with the right expertise.
In addition to covering the foundational sciences of periodontology, the programme offers advanced training in both non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapies, including regenerative techniques and innovative treatment strategies essential for restoring and maintaining periodontal health.
This programme is ideal for general practitioners who want to refine their periodontal treatment skills, broaden their clinical offerings, and enhance patient care through comprehensive periodontal management.
Official teaching centre for the CoLDS, in partnership with the University of Greater Manchester.

โข Confidently assess, plan, and perform crown lengthening and aesthetic periodontal surgery to enhance both function and smile aesthetics
โข Diagnose soft tissue deficiencies and carry out soft tissue grafting and mucogingival surgical procedures with predictable outcomes
โข Understand and apply principles of regenerative periodontal procedures, including bone grafting and guided tissue regeneration (GTR)
โข Perform resective periodontal surgery for effective pocket reduction and long-term periodontal stability

compromised patients. It emphasises identifying potential complications and
developing eective risk assessment strategies to prevent or minimise these issues.
Additionally, the module enhances communication, organisation, problem-solving,
treatment planning, risk evaluation, ethical responsibility, and informed consent skills.

This module provides an opportunity to critically analyse the key causes of
periodontal disease, along with its diagnosis and appropriate treatment options.
You will evaluate evidence and theories related to the management of gingivitis,
periodontitis, peri-implant disease, and apical periodontitis.
The module also emphasises identifying potential complications and formulating effective risk assessment strategies to prevent or minimise these issues.
This multidisciplinary module examines the anatomy, etiology, and management of occlusion from both orthodontic and restorative viewpoints. Its goal is to equip
dentists with the skills to accurately diagnose occlusal issues and develop comprehensive treatment plans that facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
This module offers an introduction to Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) through a series of practical training sessions focused on three-dimensional imaging
systems and their foundational principles. You will develop skills in navigating and interpreting three-dimensional images.
Throughout the module, you will learn about the fundamental technology behind CT scans, including their advantages and limitations.
Additionally, you will gain knowledge of the operating and legal requirements essential for the safe and effective use of radiographic equipment, as well as the
health and safety considerations related to ionizing radiation.
As an experienced dental professional, this optional module requires you to critically evaluate the value of your own knowledge base and to recognise and reflect on the important connections between what you already know and what you intend to learn through evaluation of clinical cases.
It encourages information literacy, using contemporary and seminal sources in order to compile a critical evaluation of periodontal practice to allow you to develop strategies to enhance practice. It will also be possible to arrange for supervised clinical placement of implants on actual patients in Dubai.
This module is designed to help you develop the research skills necessary to identify your dissertation topic, create a detailed proposal, and plan your research effectively. It will equip you with the academic skills required for Masterโs level study.
The module encompasses key areas such as clinical statistics, evidence-based
practice, critical appraisal, measurement, and research design, with a focus on
their specific applications in medical research and treatment.
You will learn how to formulate realistic research objectives and establish an
appropriate conceptual and analytical framework for your study. Additionally,
you will acquire skills in identifying, collating, and critically reviewing relevant
literature, enabling you to make informed decisions regarding the research
philosophies, strategies, and methods best suited to your project.

This taught module oยญffers the opportunity to conduct an extended and significant research project. It enables you to synthesize the academic knowledge gained from your previous postgraduate studies and practical experiences to create an evaluative and critical discussion on a specialist dental topic directly related to your program.
The module aims to enhance your skills in identifying a problem, determining its significance, formulating a hypothesis or proposition, designing a method for testing the hypothesis, and evaluating the results.
